Routing Only
EPC-compliant and fallback-ready
Routing plays a vital role in every VOP implementation. Whether you’re a bank, PSP or scheme, ensuring that VOP requests reach the correct endpoint quickly and securely is essential for compliance and operational continuity.
SurePay’s routing capability offers a smart, scalable and standards-aligned approach to distributing requests, both internally and externally.
In essence, our Routing Only solution lets you perform your own matching on incoming requests, while SurePay handles all outgoing VOP traffic beyond your environment.
What does Routing do?
Our routing layer determines whether a VOP request can be handled:
Internally by SurePay, when the responder is connected to SurePays’ infrastructure,
Or
Externally, when the responder is registered elsewhere via the EPC Directory Service (EDS).
We use the EPC Directory Service, updated daily, to ensure we route toward the correct endpoints reliably
and according to EPC rulebook logic.
Key functions of SurePay's Routing engine
Connected to EPC Directory
SurePay consults the EPC Directory to determine where a request should be sent, ensuring consistency with industry standards and up-to-date configurations.
Internal routing when possible
If the target responder is available via SurePay’s infrastructure, the request is routed internally, offering faster response times and reduced external dependencies.
External routing when required
If the responder is not part of the SurePay ecosystem, or performs its own matching, our router securely forwards the request to the correct endpoint..
Readiness for fallback scenarios
This architecture allows banks and PSPs to configure fallback routes to SurePay, especially useful when their primary solution becomes unavailable. It forms an important part of any business continuity strategy. While the EPC framework supports fallback endpoints, their use is not mandatory. Responsibility for activating the secondary (priority 2) endpoint lies entirely with the requester when the primary endpoint cannot be reached.
Why it matters
With the EPC VOP scheme expanding and cross-border VOP becoming the norm, intelligent routing is more than a technical requirement,
it’s a competitive necessity.
- High availability: proven track record with nearly zero downtime
- Scalability solution auto-scales to handle large volumes
- Compliance-by-default, aligned with EPC specifications
Routing is not just a background service, it is the backbone of fast, compliant, and resilient VOP delivery for PSPs that do their own Matching. Want to explore how SurePay can support your routing setup?
